Photographing J & M’s wedding was a beautiful experience that reflected not only the joy of two people coming together, but the rich cultural threads that wove their day into something truly memorable. Their ceremony was held at a Catholic church, a cornerstone of many Filipino wedding traditions. M wore a traditional barong tagalog, a formal embroidered shirt often made of piña or jusi fabric, symbolizing Filipino heritage and pride. J, radiant in her white gown, stood beside him as they exchanged vows beneath a backdrop of ornate religious iconography—classic hallmarks of Catholic weddings.

Following the ceremony, the couple embraced the bustling energy of Downtown LA with portraits that captured their playful spirits amid the towering cityscape. Their reception was held at City Club LA, an elegant venue perched high above the city, offering sweeping skyline views and a sophisticated modern backdrop for the evening’s festivities. It’s always a treat to photograph at City Club LA—not only for the ambiance and lighting, but because it brings out the glamor in every couple.

One of the standout moments of the night was J’s outfit change. For the reception, she wore a red two-piece dress adorned with ornate embroidery and pleated silk. The dress appeared to be inspired by a traditional qipao or modernized cheongsam-style attire often worn during Chinese tea ceremonies or receptions. Red is widely regarded in Chinese culture as a symbol of happiness, prosperity, and good fortune—making it a fitting and meaningful choice for the celebration.

J & M’s wedding was a perfect blend of tradition and personal style. From the Catholic mass to the vibrant reception in downtown LA, their day was filled with warmth, culture, and moments that made my job as a photographer a true joy. It’s these multi-layered celebrations that remind me how weddings are not only about two people, but the legacy and community they carry with them into marriage.
