First real blog post in 2012!Engagement: Kristine & Christian engagement photography

Every year I try to do something different in order to keep myself fresh. I started early this time around and if you have been following my work for a while, you probably would have already noticed the difference already. To kick start the already very busy 2012 I have decided to post this very awesome couple Kristine and Christian I photographed a few weeks ago.

These two are simply a blessing to work with. They’re always laughing and looking fantastic whatever they’re doing. Kristine already prepared a few lovely props to prepare for their Save the Date Cards they’re about to send out. I also dug out my Fuji Instax camera that I found as I continue my mission of unboxing which definitely worked wonders with the look and feel of the images that day.

We wrapped up the day at one of my favorite locations to photograph that vintage looking beautiful winter late afternoon sun against the hills setting. Boy, I just love doing what I do. =)

What’s in store for 2012

The second half of 2011 have gone by in a blur. I can hardly remember what happened and how I’ve gotten through the month of November and December especially.

We were notified that we have again won the Bride’s Choice Award from WeddingWire 2nd year in a row. Thank you so much for all the support and all the love. We couldn’t have done it without you. =)Whats in store for 2012 studio news publications

Here’s a quick recap of what happened since September:

  • I shot 8 weddings and 3 engagement sessions in November 2011,
  • then 3 weddings, 3 engagement sessions, and 1 family session in December.
  • During the above stretch, my wife Shirley and I worked with our contractor to finish all the remodeling work, moved in, and hosted 2 parties right before the end of the year.
  • I promised myself I’ll never do all that again… but then again, history have a tendency to repeat itself
  • Shirley’s tummy has been growing on a daily basis, giving me a reality check that I’m actually going to be a dad soon
  • My team and I been working very hard to prepare for our big plans in 2012, and I’m very proud of them!
And also just a quick update on availability because my calendar is very quickly filling up. And to anticipate the arrival of our baby, I decided to save some family time in the coming months so I’ll limit the number of wedding projects to take each month. I know this will disappoint some, but that will keep myself fresh and definitely be more productive also.
I’ll be right back… heading up to San Francisco this afternoon for a wedding shoot this Saturday. Say hi if you see me running around with my cameras!Whats in store for 2012 studio news publications

Wedding: Samantha & Dave @ Santa Barbara Zoo

Wedding: Samantha & Dave @ Santa Barbara Zoo wedding photography vintage wedding photography

This has got to be one of the most creative wedding I have shot.  The level of details and the amount of thoughts put into this wedding is simply amazing.

I doubt I could even go into details to really do it justice and explain it all to you, but notice the color theme they used to echo with  the muppets that Dave had custom made to look like themselves, the custom wedding band of Dave’s which has a lego nub that allows him to change the “stone” and also adds to another one of his toy collection, that amazing Official Ring Bearer badge Sam prepared for the ring bearer, Samantha’s awesome wedding gown which has pockets, the reading of the very last of the box of cards Dave started writing Sam every week which signifies the turning of a new chapter of their relationship, and that amazing father speech that left everybody laughing and tearing at the same time.  This is one wedding I will never forget. =)

Thanks for having our team there.  =) { click to expand post }

Wedding: Karina & David – King Hua Restaurant

I can’t believe 2011 is almost over.  This entire year has gone by in a blur and there were so many things I missed blogging about.   I’m determined to push a few more updates out before 1/1/12 and I hope you guys are still around and sober enough after your parties to read up on my blog. =)

Karina and David’s wedding is very unique culturally – blending a lot of traditional Chinese elements with Indonesian ones.   Along with her strong bonds with her sisters, and David’s closeness to his family, it made this long day actually very pleasant to photograph.

Wedding: Sandy & Lung @ Annenberg Beach House, Santa Monica

Wedding: Sandy & Lung @ Annenberg Beach House, Santa Monica wedding photography vintage wedding photography

It was a gloomy December morning when we set off to the Annenberg Beach House.  It was drizzling very lightly and we’re all worried it’s going to rain.  The drizzle never quite stopped during the entire ceremony and at one point it started really raining, but it never even crossed any one of the guests’ minds that they’d leave their seats to witness Sandy and Lung get married.  It must have been either been their positive attitude, or their never ending laughter when they see each other, the weather turned out just fine after the ceremony and that allowed us to continue shooting after the ceremony.

I also learned 3 adjetives that day – awesome, epic, and legendary.  Those are the words that were used to describe their relationship, rinse and repeat about 30 times.Wedding: Sandy & Lung @ Annenberg Beach House, Santa Monica wedding photography vintage wedding photography

Wedding: Merrill & David @ Electra Cruises – Destiny, Newport Beach

Wedding: Merrill & David @ Electra Cruises Destiny, Newport Beach wedding photography vintage wedding photography

Merrill and David is definitely one of the most interesting couples I have worked with so far.  We’ve had so much fun since their engagement session and they gave me much to remember – from the awesome burgers at the Standing Room, to Merrill’s awesome luck winning not only one, but TWO $100 on the same scratcher ticket, to giving the word “unfaithful” a whole new meaning and I’m sure that they’ll chuckle every time they come across that word again, and finally giving me a chance to meet my photography idol Rick. =)

And to top it off after their beautiful wedding on the Destiny of Electra Cruises, we headed over to Huntington Beach and took a few more pictures in front of that gorgeous view that I won’t forget.

I’ve gone through a very tiring and stressful stretch of work last month.  This, however, has been a refreshing change of pace for sure.

Thanks again Merrill and David.  It’s great seeing you again JC and Nick!  and I’m so glad I finally got to meet you in person Rick.Wedding: Merrill & David @ Electra Cruises Destiny, Newport Beach wedding photography vintage wedding photography

Wedding: St. Regis Monarch Beach – Jenny & Derek

Wedding: St. Regis Monarch Beach Jenny & Derek wedding photography

Can’t believe it’s already November.  I’ve been told that summer is the busiest time for wedding photographers but it’s never been the case for me.  Our busiest month this year is, surprisingly, November with 8 weddings and 2 engagement sessions.  Trying to deliver all our engagement session pictures and commit to our short turn-around time is really no joke as we go into the busiest month of the year.  Before packing my gears for tomorrow’s wedding I decided to find time and post this wedding. =)

We’ve had the honor to work with Shirley from Fresh Events Company a couple months ago shooting at St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort a couple months ago.  It’s indeed a treat for us with everything well organized and taken care of, along with Jenny, Derek, and the entire bridal party who filled the day with laughters and giggles.  Oh and of course their puppy Kona who was the highlight of their wedding procession.

Jenny & Derek both have a strong passion for travel and food, and they made sure all their guests could get a taste of it the entire evening serving cupcakes, mojitos, and ice-cream on top of the meals (on a side note, I still regret not having a chance to get myself one that evening!  seeing the pictures again is indeed a torture! /grin). With all the guests drowned in yummy food and dancing all around you, it’s hard not to have a great time having a camera documenting the evening.
