Photography and me

Photography is not just my profession. It is most importantly my life-long hobby and my passion.

I first picked up a camera on my honeymoon, fascinated by the camera but drawn by what I was able to capture. It is the joy, the happiness, and the memories that stayed with me after the trip that made me realize I wanted to continue shooting. I photographed everything around me – food, flowers, water, buildings, cars, people, and everything else I found. I took my camera out wherever I went, shot whatever I could, and all I read was photography books and magazines before bed.   However, nothing satisfied me more than being able to do what I do now – preserving precious memories and capturing life stories as they unfold.

I take each and every single one of my assignments personally, always doing my best. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing my clients smile as they look at their wedding pictures and albums that I deliver.

I never liked being posed in the first place and I remember doing horribly at my own engagement session when I was getting married.  I understand the fear, and overt time I learned that extensive posing only makes you look like somebody else instead of who you are; and I developed a unique approach of directing to guide my couples to display their own character and to show their chemistry.  The result – uniquely casual, natural shots of your own personality.

With a better understanding of how I work and the confidence built upon the e-session, I’m able to work my way in the background on your wedding day to really capture the event from a fresh perspective.  I want you to remember your wedding day the way it’s supposed to be, and not the way your photographer directs you to how to look at the camera; I never pause the action to get my shot, and I never stop you from what you’re doing to let me take my picture, and I always go the extra mile to ensure I don’t get in your way doing my work.  That’s what my photojournalism is all about and I’m confident that my wedding still images will help you preserve memories, to help you recollect the bits and pieces of the fragments of one of the happiest days of your life.

Outside of work, I’m really just a regular guy! =)

Tidbits about myself

  • I’m a new dad of one. Well, hopefully a dad of two sometime in the future! =)
  • Besides cameras, I have a passion towards cars
  • My wife Shirley and I each have our own Subaru
  • We both love sushi, real authentic Japanese sushi – not rolls sprinkled with sauce
  • We’re expecting our first born in February 2012, check out my wife’s blog on http://mockyroad.com
  • Like almost everybody else, I really could lose 10 lbs…
  • We love our Apple Products – we currently own 2 iMacs, 1 MacBook Pro, 4 iPhones (1 of each generation), 1 iPod, 2 Apple TVs, and an iPad.  This is coming from someone who used to do IT work with PCs
  • I always leaving my glasses, shades, and small personal belongings behind
  • My brain works pictorially – images help me remember things and most of my memories are in image forms in my head – i.e. children books with lots of pictures suit me better than text books; but on the other hand, images that I shoot often serve as mental notes for me, and that became a part of the way I photograph.
  • Besides food, I make 90% of all my purchases online
  • I have 17 years without any convicted driving violations, and I intend to keep that streak going
  • I recently started shooting videos with my DSLR cameras – consider that my new hobby
