Squirrels Attack!

Little Squirrel...

Happy Monday!

Yep, that Friday that I was once accustomed to, that pathway way to a 2 day of rest is long gone.  Monday is usually now the day I get to recoup a little.

It’s been a little while since I took a break and my body finally cried foul yesterday and I had a fever.  Since I feel like blogging today and I think I should try to stay away from work for a little bit (trust me, that won’t be long), I’m sharing this story with you.

A little while ago I received this email:

Hi Herman!

My name is Kim and I own a non-profit animal/humor webcam called the Bad Manors Squirrel Diner.  We’ve been doing a lot of fundraising for a volunteer wildlife organization that rescues orphaned squirrels and rehabs them until they’re ready to be released back into the wild.  I’m planning a day on my webcam for the birthday of the woman who devotes her life to saving these squirrels.  My plan is to cover the entire webcam show area with “squirrels” (photos), one of them holding a happy birthday sign for this wonderful woman.

I noticed that you have a squirrel photo on flickr that would be perfect – and it’s a fox squirrel, the same kind we have here in Santa Monica, CA.  The photo features one standing upright.  I’m writing to ask you for permission to use this photo.  I would be having a printer print up about 200 of them and custom cut them, then I’ll place them all over the deck.

Please let me know if this is possible.  Here is my show if you’d like to take a peek:

Thank you!

Kim

The picture Kim requested was a picture I took back in 2007 when I was traveling.  I’ve been on flickr for a while and it’s the place that nurtured my photography.  The awesome communities provided me with lots of insights and inspirations which helped me transform from a GWC (guy with camera) to get to this point of my career today.  So there’s my chance to help out and brighten somebody else’s day and naturally I replied with a big YES along with the picture.

It’s been a few months and I almost forgot about the whole thing until yesterday when I received this email:

Herman,
I can’t thank you enough for allowing us to use your photo.  We had them printed up and placed all through the yard at the wildlife rehab place Coast & Canyon Wildlife Rehabilitation.  It was beautiful and Marcia, the woman who runs the organization, loved the birthday surprise so much — and by broadcasting this on ustream we were able to raise enough money in donations to get 3 new small incubators that will used to intake the tiniest baby squirrels.  I can’t thank you enough.  The squirrels in the yard were the highlight of the day!  I’ll attach an image.
Thank you!
Kim
Along with this picture:
This is what I would call putting my picture to good use… haha!
That really brightened my day and I hope this would put a smile on your face too. =)
Happy Birthday Marcia, and congratulations to the success of your fund raising!
